Kik Messenger

Kik Messenger, commonly called Kik, is a freeware instant messaging mobile app from the Canadian company Kik Interactive. It is available free of charge on iOS and Android operating systems. As of May 2016, Kik Messenger had approximately 300 million registered users, and was used by approximately 40% of United States teenagers.

Setting Up Kik Messenger

In order to connect Kik Messenger to your Space, you will need the following:

    Creating a New Bot

    On your computer, go to the Kik Bot Developer Page.

    Here, you will be presented with a Kik Scan Code.

    Open the Kik Messenger App on your mobile device. From your main chat list, press the grey "+" button on the top right. From here, select "Scan a Kik Code" and scan the code on the Kik Bot Dashboard using your phone.

    After you have done so, you will be directed to chat with Botsworth, a Kik Bot that will help you create your own. In the chat with Botsworth, enter a username for your bot and tap the "Yes" button to confirm. Note that you can always change the display name of your Kik Bot later.

    After setting up your new Kik Bot with Botsworth, read the terms of service on your browser. In Contact Settings, fill out the required information. Once you have done so, press the "Accept and Continue" button.

    Connecting to Kik Messenger

    To add a new channel to an existing Space, navigate to Settings Module and select the blue "Add Channel" button under Manager Channels.

    Under the Channel Connection menu, select the Kik Logo and press the blue "Next" button.

    Once you have done so, you should be asked for the Channel Name, Greeting Message, and information needed to connect to your Kik Bot.

    Enter a suitable name for the new channel. Note that the Channel Name is private and will only be used within the Platform.

    You may enter an optional Greeting Message. This will be shown when a new member of your audience first contacts you.

    Kik Bot Name and API Key

    On the Kik Bot Developer Page, select "Configuration" from top navigation bar to go to the Configuration Page.

    Under Account Settings section, you will be able to find the username of your Kik Bot. Copy your Kik Bot's username and paste it into the Kik Bot Name field on the Platform.

    Back on the Configuration page, scroll down to the API Key section. Here, you can find the API Key for connecting to your Kik Bot. Copy the key and paste it into the its respective field on the Platform.

    Once you have filled in the required fields, go ahead and press the blue "Done" button to create the Space.
